Companion animal rehabilitation referral service
for veterinary practice and pet owners
No apologies. We put your pets first.
» Company Info
Active Pet Rehabilitation is a small business set up by Carmel Keylock for
the express purpose of helping vets and owners restore pets to functional
mobility after accidents or disease.
So what does that mean?
It means taking your lifestyle into consideration when we build a treatment and exercise plan to get your pet back to normal as fast as possible.
Protect your pets from misinformed treatments that slow their return to health or pain free movement
by getting veterinary advice before trying any new treatment.
BACKGROUND
Born and raised in country Western Australia
EDUCATION
Qualified as a veterinary nurse at (then) Bentley Technical College in 1984, working within the vet profession ever since. Carmel has been involved in first opinion and referral
practice in small animal and equine disciplines.
In 1994 Carmel persued veterinary physiotherapy in the U.K., becoming a member of the National Association
of Veterinary Physiotherapists (formerly Nat Assoc Animal Therapists) in 1996.
Carmel is currently extending her qualifications, working towards becoming a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner with the University of Tennessee U.S.A.
EXPERIENCE
From March 2002 until September 2007 Carmel provided an independent animal physiotherapy service for veterinary practices and their patients in the U.K. Working "in house" with practices in Bedfordshire, and the West Midlands on a weekly basis; and seeing cases for other practices, including referral orthopaedic practices, on a case by case basis.
Carmel has also had an article on physiotherapy techniques for
small animals published in the British Veterinary Nursing Association
Journal (May 2000) and spoken regularly about small animal physiotherapy and hydrotherapy at various regional meetings
and workshops. Regularly co-presenting workshops on Physiotherapy Techniques in Veterinary Practice at the annual
British Veterinary Nursing Association Congress in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire from 2002 - 2006.
Carmel was also a speaker at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress 2006, on using animal physiotherapists in veterinary practice.
Now that Carmel has returned home to W.A. she is putting her experience to good use for veterinary practices and their patients in Perth.
THE FUTURE
With a young family Carmel knows how difficult it can be to find time for all the members of the family, even the furry ones.
Carmel is currently extending her qualifications, working towards becoming a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner with the University of Tennessee U.S.A.
Active Pet Rehabilitation can now offer day patient or half-day patient facilities for revisit treatments. Revisit patients can be dropped off, and collected after treatment to maximise your time. Just ask at the time of making the appointment.
Initial assessments still need at least one family member present to give you the best opportunity to ask questions and practice home exercises.
